| CLIMATE | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
After being here since 2001 I can tell you that the climate here is fantastic! Not to say there aren't going to be days that you wish the humidity would go away or days in the winter when the wind blows a chill down your spine. In general the Spring starts March 1 with a burst of flowers and mild weather. Generally the spring has a fair amount of wind which makes the wind surfers and sailors happy. As summer approaches we get thunderstorms passing through - generally in the afternoon. The exception seems to be on the beach where the onshore breezes keep the clouds away. There is a saying here," if you don't like the weather cross the street" - in the Summer this is absolutely true. During the summer months I tend to plan outdoor activities in the morning or later in the day - staying in during the hottest times of the day save you from getting too steamed up. The fall is wonderful and lasts from September until December. And winter can hardly be called winter. I play tennis outdoors most of the time, keep my boat in the water and venture out on the days where the mercury climbs above 60. Overall, January is the coldest month but it doesn't last long and by the end of August you are ready for cooler days. So, perhaps there are 2 months out of the year with less then ideal conditions. Wilmington and North Carolina's Cape Fear Coast enjoys a temperate subtropical climate year-round. Summer temperatures are usually in the 80s. Seasons are mild, with an average 212 sunshine days and a mean average temperature of 63.7 degrees Fahrenheit. There are 212 sunshine days, the rest are cloudy and partly cloudy. However, keep in mind that most of the days that are "cloudy or partly cloudy" are really sunny and nice at least for a majority of the day.
